SENIOR PORTRAIT ADVICE FOR PARENTS OF HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS!

Hey there, parents of high school juniors! Can you believe it’s already time to start thinking about senior portraits? I know, I know – time flies – TRUST ME – my twins are also High School Juniors right now – and the idea of our kids becoming seniors is a bit overwhelming. But fear not, we’ve got your back with a heads-up on what you need to know and plan for with our Senior Portrait advice.

Senior Portraits Advice: Timeline

Senior portraits for the yearbook are typically due in October. That means the bulk of senior portraits are usually taken during the Spring Semester of Junior Year. With winter sports and snowy landscapes dominating January to March, and spring sports taking over from April to June, finding the right time is crucial.
January-March (Winter Sports like snowboarding/skiing, hockey, figure skating, gymnastics, basketball, dance, etc and activities such as art, theatre, music, and more that can be done indoors!)
April-June (Spring Sports – such as Equestrian, Baseball/Softball, Soccer, Lacrosse, Field Hockey, Tennis, Track, etc)
Summer months are great for swimming, beach volleyball, water skiing, jet skiing, and anything else involving the sand surf and sun!
August-September (Fall Sports – such as Lacrosse, Volleyball, Cheerleading, Football, etc)

The Ideal Time for Senior Portraits:

If in-studio isn’t quite your style, May to September is an excellent time for senior portrait sessions. The weather is generally pleasant during these months, offering beautiful outdoor settings on location anywhere important to your Senior and your family. Whether your child is into lush greenery, blossoming flowers, or golden autumn leaves, shooting during this period provides a diverse range of scenic backdrops.

Be Proactive – Book Early:

Photographers tend to book up quickly, especially during the prime months for senior portraits. To secure the photographer of your choice, it’s advisable to start the booking process as early as possible. This ensures that you have ample time to find the perfect fit for your child’s personality and style.
Here at Seniors by Ashlie Steinau Photography, we are even booking current Sophomores for next Spring!
